SCADA and Systems Control Since 1973

Background

The Morton Grove Niles Water Commission required a control systems integrator to support water transmission and pumping operations serving the Villages of Niles and Morton Grove. The commission receives Lake Michigan water from the Village of Evanston and repumps that water for distribution to its member communities.

To support these operations, the commission needed a reliable control system across its pumping facilities, along with ongoing service and upgrade support. ACS has served as the control systems integrator for this system since 2017.

Solution and Results

Automatic Control Services furnished, programmed, and started up two control panels for the Morton Grove Niles Water Commission and continues to support and upgrade the control system.

At the Intermediate Pumping Station, ACS implemented an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLC and an Allen-Bradley 17-inch PanelView OIT to support three inline pumps and a bypass valve.

At the Nagle Pump Station, ACS installed an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLC with a SCADA computer running Rockwell FactoryTalk and a Maple Systems 15-inch OIT. This station includes three pump skids with three variable speed pumps on each skid, two standpipe fill valves, and chemical feed controls.

Together, these upgrades support the commission’s ability to receive Lake Michigan water from Evanston and repump it efficiently to the Villages of Niles and Morton Grove.

Conclusion

ACS delivered a control solution that supports critical regional water distribution infrastructure for the Morton Grove Niles Water Commission. By furnishing, programming, and commissioning the required control panels, ACS helped establish a reliable operational foundation and continues to provide service and upgrade support for the commission’s system.
